General Info

About Bearfeed

Bearfeed was created in response to the discontinuation of Google Reader, aiming to provide a modern and intuitive alternative for managing RSS feeds. The project focused on building a cleaner, more accessible reading experience centred around usability and simplicity.

The challenge was creating an interface that handled large amounts of content without feeling cluttered or overwhelming. The approach focused on minimal layouts, flexible reading views, and a cohesive visual identity that kept attention on the content itself.

The result was a streamlined RSS reader paired with a lightweight marketing website designed to introduce the platform clearly and efficiently.

Branding

A playful visual identity designed to create recognition and personality

The Bearfeed brand combined clean digital aesthetics with a more approachable and memorable personality. A balanced colour palette of deep neutrals and vibrant accent tones helped create contrast while maintaining readability across the interface.

The branding focused on making the product feel accessible and friendly without losing the simplicity expected from a productivity tool.

Mascot

Thorburn, Bearfeed’s mascot, became a central part of the brand identity.

Inspired by the idea of strength, reliability, and approachability, the character helped give the platform a more human and recognisable presence.

The mascot added personality across the website and interface while helping the product stand apart from more generic RSS reader platforms.

Web Design

A clean, content-focused experience designed for clarity and easy exploration

The Bearfeed website was designed as a simple single-page experience that introduced the product, highlighted features, and guided users toward sign-up and pricing information.

The layout mirrored the minimal nature of the product itself, using clean spacing, structured content, and focused messaging to maintain clarity throughout the experience.

UX / UI

A streamlined, flexible interface designed for effortless content consumption

The Bearfeed interface prioritised readability and ease of navigation, ensuring users could browse feeds without distraction. Multiple viewing modes, including card and magazine layouts, gave users flexibility in how they consumed content.

Structured navigation and minimal UI patterns helped keep the experience lightweight, intuitive, and focused entirely on the reading experience.

Outcome

A cohesive reading experience across interface, branding, and web touchpoints

Bearfeed successfully explored how thoughtful UX and strong branding could modernise the RSS reading experience. The project combined clean interface design with a memorable visual identity to create a platform that felt both practical and approachable.

From the product interface to the mascot and marketing site, every element worked together to deliver a simple and engaging experience centred around content discovery.
