Reimagining classic video game worlds through clean, transit-inspired map design.
Game Map is a personal concept project inspired by my love of retro games and visual systems. The idea began with reimagining the world map from Super Mario World for "Level Select" as a stylised underground transit map, transforming familiar routes and levels into a clean, structured graphic experience.
The goal was to blend nostalgia with modern information design while keeping the charm and recognisability of the original game intact. Alongside the map itself, I also created a dedicated Game Map logo to support the idea as an ongoing series for other games in the future.
The Game Map branding was designed to feel simple, flexible, and inspired by classic gaming culture. The logo combines clean typography with subtle gaming influences, giving the project its own recognisable identity without overpowering the artwork itself.
The overall visual direction balances retro inspiration with modern layout design, helping the concept feel both nostalgic and contemporary.
The map illustration reworked the Super Mario World overworld into a structured transport-style system, using simplified routes, station markers, and colour-coded pathways to reinterpret the original game layout.
The project focused heavily on composition and clarity, turning a familiar gaming environment into something that felt fresh, graphic, and instantly readable while still celebrating the source material.
Game Map became a fun exploration of how classic games can be reimagined through graphic design and visual storytelling. The project combined nostalgia, illustration, and structured layout design into a concept that felt both playful and polished.
It also laid the groundwork for future map concepts, opening up opportunities to expand the series into other iconic gaming worlds.
