About Isaac's Theme

Isaac was a custom Tumblr theme created during the platform’s peak, when personalisation and self-expression were a huge part of online culture. The aim was to design a clean, flexible theme that worked equally well for bloggers, photographers, and writers.

The challenge was balancing simplicity with creativity — creating something lightweight and easy to read while still feeling visually distinctive. I focused on strong typography, generous spacing, and subtle interface details to give users a polished but highly adaptable layout.

The visual direction for Isaac focused on simplicity and readability. Clean typography, muted styling, and structured layouts created a timeless aesthetic that allowed posts and imagery to take priority.

The theme was intentionally flexible, giving users the ability to customise colours and personalise the experience without losing the clean overall design language.

Web Design

A lightweight, flexible experience designed for effortless publishing

Isaac was built to feel fast, clean, and easy to navigate. A fluid grid layout ensured different post formats displayed consistently, while the sidebar navigation made it simple to access archives, social links, and additional pages.

Performance was also a major focus. The theme was lightweight and optimised for fast loading, helping users maintain a smooth browsing experience even on slower internet connections common at the time.

Isaac became a strong example of how thoughtful layout and typography could elevate even the simplest blogging platforms. The project combined clean front-end design with practical customisation features, creating a theme that felt modern, usable, and personal.

Looking back, it remains an important project in my early design journey and reflects the creative freedom that defined the Tumblr era.
