A lightweight news platform designed to make reading, organising, and discovering content effortless.
Owly was created as a hub for a collection of side projects built alongside a small team of developers, including Amazium and Bearfeed. The platform focused on delivering a clean and distraction-free way for users to consume and organise content online.
The goal was to simplify the reading experience while keeping the interface fast, lightweight, and easy to use. With more content available online than ever before, the challenge was designing a platform that helped users stay informed without feeling overwhelmed.
The Owly brand was built around the idea of wisdom, clarity, and discovery. The owl mascot became the centrepiece of the identity, designed in a simple and friendly style to make the platform feel accessible rather than overly technical.
The colour palette combined warm reds, muted blues, and darker neutral tones to create a balance between personality and readability. Paired with clean typography, the identity helped Owly stand out while still feeling lightweight and modern.
Custom illustrations and mascot graphics played a big role in shaping Owly’s personality. The owl character, complete with signature glasses, added charm and recognisability across the platform while reinforcing the idea of smart, curated content.
These visual elements helped soften the technical side of the product and created a more engaging experience throughout the interface and promotional assets.
The interface was designed around simplicity and readability. Clean layouts, minimal distractions, and clear hierarchy kept the focus on the content while allowing users to customise their reading experience through layout preferences and dark mode options.
Performance and usability were key considerations throughout the project, ensuring the platform worked smoothly across desktop and mobile devices while remaining fast and responsive.
Owly evolved from a simple concept into a polished platform that explored smarter ways to consume and organise online content. The project combined branding, interface design, and front-end thinking into a cohesive experience that balanced usability with personality.
Although Owly later became part of Bearfeed, the ideas and visual direction behind the project continued to influence future tools and experiments built by the team.
